Holly Hunter, an American actress and film producer is renowned for her roles in movies such as Broadcast News The Firm The Piano The Incredibles. The film Piano earned her an Oscar. The path to acting began on Broadway through a myriad of Broadway as well as Off Broadway initiatives. Enthusiastic about acting from the time she was in school, she portrayed Helen Keller in a play during the 5th grade. Mumps caused her to be blind and deaf in the one ear, but she did not allow this to hinder her ambitions of becoming an actor. While in college, she studied drama and moving to New York City with her plans with her sights set. Hunter was introduced to Beth Henley by chance in an lift. Together they composed Broadway Crimes of the Heart. This was Hunter's acting debut. Following her move to Los Angeles she tried to find film roles, and was able to secure the role of a co-star in Swing Shift. In the years since, she has been in numerous films and TV movies and series throughout a span of more than three decades. Holly Hunter was awarded a Hollywood Walk of Fame Star as well as the Women in Film Lucy Award.
